African Swine Flu in Manipur, no pig transportation allowed


Imphal: Outbreak of African Swine Flu has been confirmed amongst the pigs in the Dang’s Pi gery Farming located at Grihang Village, Kamjong District, Manipur.

Kamjong district of Manipur has been declared as controlled area for African Swine Flu as epicenter under Section 6 of “The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Disease in Animals Act, 2009” Kamjong district magistrate Ranganmei Rang Peter alerted on Wednesday.

The district magistrate declared that the 1 Km radius around Dang Farming, Grihang Village as the Infected Zone, and the 10 Km radius from Infected premises as “Surveillance Zone”.

It was ordered that no live pig or pig feed or pork and pork products would be allowed to be taken out of or brought into the zone. No carrier of goods or animals would carry any animals from or out of the Infected Zone. No person is allowed to take out any pig alive or dead which is infected or suspected to be infected with African Swine Flu. No person is allowed to carry any pig feed or other materials — namely carcass, skin or other parts or products — of such animal which has come in contact with any animal infected or suspected to be infected with the flu and no person, organization or institution shall hold any animal market or exhibition and carry on any activity which involves grouping or gathering of pigs within the zone.

The department of veterinary and animal husbandry, Kamjong in collaboration with the sub-divisional magistrate/officer, Kamjong are to take up immediate measures under the Act, and as provided under National Action Plan for Control, Containment and Eradication of African Swine Fever in the Infected Zone, the district magistrate said.
