SDRF commanding officer, 3 others suspended

Imphal: Commanding officer of State Disaster Management Force (SDRF) Md Jakiruddin and three other personnel of SDRF suspended based on an enquiry report of additional director general of police (law and order), Clay Khoingsai against corrupt practice while performing their duty.

The other personnel of SDRF are officer-in-charge, inspector SL Thangjapao Vaiphei of CID (security); havildar RK Momosana of 5th IRB and rifleman Sagolsem Yainikhomngamba Meetei of Manipur Police Training Institute (MPTC) the personnel are presently attached with SDRF.

ADGP Clay told reporters, here on Thursday that a complaint was received by chief minister, N Biren Singh stating that there are some corrupt practice in SDRF.

Based on the complaint, Clay, superintendent of police, Imphal East M. Pradip and additional superintendent of police (law and order), Imphal East Pramesh Arambam conducted an enquiry on May 31 at the office of SDRF located near western gate of 2nd Manipur Rifles’ gate, the officer said.

Clay said the complaint mentioned that some of the SDRF personnel are involved in corrupt practice regarding taking unauthorised leave by paying money to senior officials of SDRF. The three police officers on questioning the personnel of SDRF received some information that Momosana and Yainikhomngamba are directly involved during the unauthorised activities, he added.

There are a total strength of around 152 SDRF personnel and out of the total 117 personnel turned up during the enquiry and questioning, Clay said.

Later, the two personnel along with 8 others were called at the office of SP, Imphal East for further questioning. On further questioning the two personnel disclosed that they involved in the unauthorised activity where they took around Rs 5,000 (without particular rate) who wanted to skip their duty for their personnel purpose, however, they were signed in as on duty, he added.

The two personnel also disclosed that regarding the unauthorised activity they contacted commanding officer of SDRF and officer-in-charge if any personnel wanted to take unauthorised leave for around 1 month long duration though they are signed in as on duty, the officer said.

During the time of recent Manipur State Assembly Election some personnel of SDRF were allowed to skip their election duty by paying around Rs 7,000 to the higher officers of SDRF, Clay said.

He said among the 152 strength there are around 40 untrained personnel, 26 female personnel and among the female personnel there are 12 unfit female personnel.

ADGP said the four personnel including CO SDRF has been suspended and for further investigation a case has been registered at vigilance department.
