World Bicycle Day observed for War on Drugs


Imphal: On World Bicycle Day, more than a hundred cyclists took out a rally to further the Manipur government’s War on Drugs and poppy cultivation, and organised a tree plantation drive.

The rally was organised as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by the Churachandpur District Administration, Churachandpur District Police, Churachandpur Forest Division and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Churachandpur.

The rally was flagged off from Churachandpur public ground by SP Shivanand Surve. After covering about 8 km towards the north along the Tedim Road, the rallyists reached their first destination, Saihenjang Playground and took part in a tree plantation at Saihenjang village.

The SP, other ranks and files of Churachandpur Police also took part in the plantation drive. The rally, back again to its route, then culminated at Peace Ground, Tuibong.

Deputy director, NYK, Churachandpur, H. Doungel said the objective of the rally was to spread awareness and sensitise the public on the adverse impacts of poppy cultivation and harmful effects of drugs. It was also aimed to inculcate a sense of healthy, fit and drug free life among the youth, he added.
