Imphal: Manipur Police seized Heroin No. 4 worth Rs 27 crore and 15 lakhs from two drug traffickers who were apprehended on Friday.
The two apprehended smugglers were identified as Thaovikhu MK, 21, son of Sahriini of Laii village, Tadubi, Senapati district and Letkhohao Haokip, 42, son of Letkhojang Haokip of T. Champhai village, Churachandpr district.
Thaovikhu was apprehended from near Kalapahar Outpost when teams of Kangpokpi Police conducted intensive frisking and checking near Kalapahar Outpost along NH-2 under the overall instruction of Amrita Sinha based on the information of suspicious movement of drug peddlers.
He was driving one red Chevrolet Travera bearing registration number NL05C-1984. The car was stopped and during checking the driver was behaved in a very suspicious manner. The driver of the vehicle was preliminary questioned tactfully at the spot and he eventually admitted that he is a drug peddler transporting illegal drugs along the highway and also admitted that suspected heroin No. 4 is concealed in the vehicle, a police press release said.
The vehicle was duly searched in presense of executive magistrate Salam Bimoljit Singh, MCS of DC Office, Kangpokpi and indipendent witnesses, Kangpokpi which lead to the recovery of 71 numbers of soap cases containing suspected Heroin No. 4 weighing 2.955 Kg including the weight of the plastic soap cases. The approximate value of the suspected Heroin No. 4 is estimated of Rs 21,30,000 in the local market and Rs 10,65,00000 in the International market, it said.
Thaovikhu further divulged that he obtained the suspected Heroine No.4 from Letkhohao, it added.
Immediately the police rushed to the said person’s adress. And with the assistance from Shivananda Surve, Churachandpur SP, conducted search in presense of executive magistrate and indipendent witnesses at the residence of Letkhojang and recovered 110 soap cases of suspected Heroin No.4 Powder from his house. He was arrested by observing formalities and the recovered 110 soap cases of suspected Heroin No.4 was seized, the release said.
The approximate value of the suspected Heroin No. 4 recovered again was estimated of Rs 3,30,000 in the local market and Rs 16,50,00,000 in the international market. Altogether a sum Rs 27,15,00,000 in International market can be seized successfully by the Kangpokpi Police, it added.
In this regard, a regular case under FIR under NDPS Act has been registered for investigation. And both the accused persons were produced into Concern Court and remanded into Police Custody till June 17, it said.
