Brown Sugar seized, 3 arrested in Manipur

Imphal: Jiribam District Police of Manipur seized around 1.037 kg of Brown Sugar and arrested three drug peddlers including one Assamese along national highway number 37 (Imphal- Jiribam road) near Leingangpokpi village on Sunday.
The arrested persons were identified as one Sevanshon Sevan Raja, 30, son of Thoiringam Sevan Raja of Chawangkining village, Kangpokpi district; Debashish Paul, 23, son of Sujit Paul of Salgangapar-II, P.O. Salgangapar, P.S. Udharband, Assam presently staying at Senapati Old Road Yepao Colony and Sevan Raja Athoi Chiru, 23, son of Thoiringam Sevan Raja of Chawangkining village, Thonglang, Kangpokpi district.
In continuation of Manipur government’s War on Drugs Manipur police has been seizing huge amounts of drugs and other illicit items. As part of the campaign a team of district police while frisking and checking along NH-37 near Leingangpokpi stopped a car bearing registration number MN 01 AG -0671 which was moving from Imphal to Jiribam.
During examination of the vehicle a package containing suspected brown sugar weighing around 1.073 kgs was detected and seized from the possession at around 12.30 pm in presence of witness. The Brown Sugar was seized and arrested the drug peddlers at the spot, a police report said.
The seizures along with the arrested persons have been handed over to Jiribam police station for further necessary legal action, it added.
