Imphal: With the initiative of All Manipur Scientific Farmers’ Association in collaboration with state fishery department on Monday procured around 4500 fingerlings of Sareng (wallago attu) fish to Imphal from Kolkata.
All Manipur Scientific Farmer Association president Premananda Meitei said, with the initiative taken by the association in collaboration with the state fishery department, Sareng fingerlings have started arriving in Manipur.
The aim of procurement of sareng fingerlings is to make self-sufficient in production and make available in plenty to the consumers, he said.
More such fingerlings are expected to arrive on Sunday. Any person interested in rearing local Sareng can contact All Manipur Scientific Farmers’ Association and Fishery Department through 9378157652, 7005150679, 8837428241 or 9856677522, he added.
The fingerlings will be started rearing in ponds of Phokbakchao, Imphal West district. It is expected that with the arriving of Sareng fingerlings, the Sareng fish produce in the state would be sufficient for consumption in future.
