Timber worth Rs 7.68 crore seized in Manipur’s Ukhrul


Imphal: Somsai battalion of Assam Rifles under aegis of IGAR (S) foiled timber mmuggling  in near Choithar Junction, Ukhrul district of Manipur on Wednesday.

The Assam Rifles troops  intercepted six trucks loaded with illegal timber in near Choithar junction , Ukhrul. On enquiring, truck drivers could not produce legitimate documents of timber. “The siezed timber is evaluated to be worth Rs 7.68 crore,” the Assam Rifles said.

The seized timber along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to forest department, Ukhrul for further legal action, it added.
