Havildar who escorted three WY drug smugglers arrested with them

Imphal: Churachandpur Police of Manipur has arrested a havildar and three drug traffickers including a couple (who were escorted by the havildar) in ferrying 1,50, 000 contraband World is Yours (WY) tablets, from Churachandpur on Thursday.
The havildar who escorted the drug smugglers was Ashangbam Keshorjit Singh, 40, son of late A. Setyabanta Singh of Keisamthong Elangbam Leikai.
Keshorjit is posted as havildar at 1st Manipur Rifles presently attached at Kakching district commando unit, a police report said.
The smugglers were identified as Md Wahidur Rahman, 47 (son of late Tayeb Ali) and his wife Sarita, 35, resident of Lilong Tairen Makhong, and Md Mujahid, 19, son of late Md Rafizuddin of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai.
Acting on an information of an unknown person along with his wife is on the way to Churachandpur to purchase contraband drugs from an unknown person, a team of district police led by its officer-in-charge, N. Ingocha Singh along with two police teams conducted frisking and checking along the Churachandpur road.
During the operation at around 7.40 pm of the day Wahidur, who came in a silver Alto car bearing registration number MH14BK- 5448, was detained with his wife and Mujahid.
The WY tablets were detected in the car and seized.The WY tablets would worth around Rs 1.5 lakh in local market and might worth around Rs 75 lakh in international market, police said.
The three drug peddlers were arrested at the spot in presence of two independent witness and executive magistrate.
It came to light that Keshorjit was escorting the drug smugglers. He was also arrested from Khudekpi area near Moirang Lamkai and seized his Creta car bearing registration number MN04A- 5099, police said.
A regular case has been registered against them for investigation, it added.
