Imphal: As Manipur government’s War on Drugs goes on, state police have arrested four drug smugglers including a mother and son, who were ferrying Heroin No. 4 powder in a car along the Indo-Myanmar road in Kakching.
The arrest was made by teams of Commando Unit, Kakching while conducted frisking and checking at Pallel Commando Check-post at Leimanai Chingjin on Saturday morning.
During the Police duty one Wagon R (smoke grey in colour) vehicle bearing registration number MN02A 4499 coming from Pallel side was given a signal to stop for checking, but the vehicle tried to escape the check point by speeding the vehicle. However, the CDO teams managed to stop the vehicle at a short distance from the check-post, superintendent of police Kakching Shrey Vats said.
The car driver and the occupants were detained for verification. They were identified as Lamvah Haokip, 38, wife of Onthong Haokip of S P. Saichang, Molnoi Tengnoupal; Letkhogin Haokip, 18, son of Onthong Haokip; Ch. Nemneikim Mate, 43, wife of Ch. Chunglet mate of Khonomphai village, Tengnoupal; and Nengneichong Haokip, 37, wife of Paongam Haokip of Zalenphai Part-1, Moreh ward no. 1 Tengnoupal.
The driver along with the car were searched after observing legal formalities. From the vehicle, 50 soap cases containing Heroin No.4 powder were detected. The driver of vehicle and its occupants were arrested. The Heroin No.4 powder was found to weigh approximately 610 gm (in total), the senior police officer said.
The arrested person along with the seized articles were taken to Kakching Police station for taking up further necessary legal action.
