Bishnupur district administration decides to utilise PM’s award in district sports


Imphal: The District Administration Bishnupur has decided to utilise the prize money amounting to Rs 20 lakh received under the Prime Minister’s Award for excellence in Public Administration, 2021 as District Sports Development Fund for the development and welfare of sports and athletes in the district.

Any contribution from individual or organisation or institution shall be deposited in the fund, an office memorandum on Wednesday said.

The total fund is deposited at ICICI Bank. The same bank account will be joint account with the deputy commissioner/ Chairman DLEC and DYASO/ member Sscretary DLEC Bishnupur as joint signatories,  it added.

The purpose of creation of the fund is to impart momentum and flexibility to assisting the cause of sports. The fund will help sportspersons excel by providing them gap filling fund for travelling for participation in national international competitions of Olympic sports discipline. The sportsperson should belong to BPL family or are orphans. The fund will also provide financial assistance for prize money district/block level competitions upto a maximum of Rs. 50,000 to regular performing district level dubs and organizations. Role of the fund is supplementary to the various support and funding given by the state and central government.

The main objective is to offer financial support and encouragement to the sports star in the district. This tiny token of encouragement will push the athletes and sportspersons towards better performance in the future, deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram said in the office memorandum.

It mentioned eligible criteria that applicant must be resident of the Bishnupur district, applicant must belong to BPL family or is an orphan and for competition, organiser must be registered in Bishnupur and competition must be district level/block level.

The applicant must submit the application addressed to “The deputy commissioner/district magistrate/ chairman DLEC, Bishnupur district, Manipur with subject and along with domicile, photocopy of the Aadhaar card, AAY card and necessary documents for application.

Approval will be done on the verification and recommendation of the District Youth Affairs and Sports Officer (DYASO), Bishnupur, the office memorandum said.
