Eighty Myanmar nationals apprehended in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur Police have apprehended 80 Myanmar nationals from Churachandpur district in three operations conducted on Tuesday.

Churachandpur district police, based on reliable information regarding the presence of Myanmarese nationals in Churachandpur particularly at the general area of Ngathal village, a huge team of Churachandpur  Police under the supervision of Shivanand Surve, IPS, SP-CCP led by Th. Deshorjit Singh, additional SP (OPS) and Hasby Haokip, assisted by SDPO CCP and OC CCP PS and OC WPS and other officers including 60 others conducted a cordon and search operation from 5 am till 8:30 am.

House to house search operation was conducted at Vaal Veng, Churachandpur wherein 40 persons were apprehended from two rented places.

Another rented house at Vaal Veng, New Lamka was searched wherein 13 males, 16 females and eight children suspected to be Myanmar nationals were apprehended.

The owner of the rented place Biakchunga, 58, on being asked revealed that he came to Mizoram from Myanmar in the year 1986 and came to Kwanpui, Churachandpur in 2013.

Further, on receipt of more information that three male Myanmarese nationals were roaming around in new bazar area selling some goods they were arrested from Gouchinkhup Veng, New Lamka.

A total of 25 males, 35 females and 20  hildren (total 80) were apprehended during the entire operation.

All the apprehended persons could not produce any valid document for staying in India and disclosed that they were all citizens of Myanmar.

Following this a regular FIR under Foreigners Act has been taken up for further investigation.

All of them have been provided food and water and other necessities and requested CMO CCP to send in doctors for a medical check up. Doctors have examined them, a police report said.

All the adult members would be produced before the CJM for further remand for proper investigation and children will be produced before the JJ Board.

Senior officers led by ADG LO Clay Khongsai accompanied by IG Zone- 2  Jayenta and DIG R 3, Angam, have inspected the places where the persons were apprehended from and have briefed self and all officers to follow due procedures in the case and investigate thoroughly, the police report said.
