Club volunteers apprehend 9 drug users

Imphal: Two local club members on Friday apprehend nine drug users including non-locals from a rice hotel located at Punshi Keithel, Imphal West.

The drugs users were apprehended by some volunteers of Nagamapal Nachal an Echel club at around 2 pm while carrying a drive against drugs in the area.

The volunteers saw some garbage collector entering in the rice hotel in a suspicious manner. Immediately some of the volunteers rushed inside the hotel. Huge quantity of liquors were detected and the nine garbage collectors under the influence of illicit drugs including non-locals were also apprehended.

A team of Imphal West district police rushed to the spot and picked up the garbage collectors and handed over to Drug Rehabilitation center located at Canchipur.

A member of Echel club, Dushanta told reporters that people need to get aware from such garbage collectors who collect garbage from streets of Imphal city. Most of the garbage collector are drug peddlers and they supply drugs to many users as home delivery service.

He said it is unfortunate that such people started supplying of drugs amid the tight security in the vicinity of Imphal city.

He appealed the police department to take necessary steps against such practices.
