Marangjing landslide: ‘No public vehicle beyond NH-37 junction’


Imphal: To avoid pile-up of vehicles and visitors at Ground Zero of the Marangjing landslide, Noney, and ensure there is smooth, efficient operation of vehicles used in the landslide search and rescue operation, chairperson, District Disaster Management Authority issued restriction order on Sunday.

Only official vehicles and vehicles used in search and rescue operations, shall be allowed to go beyond the NH-37 junction point, the order said.

For all other vehicles, only those with entry passes issued from the office of the DC, shall be allowed; SDO Haochong — 841487653 shall issue those passes only on reasonable grounds, after consulting with the DC and SP, it added.

No vehicle carrying relief materials from CSOs and other well-wishers shall be allowed beyond the highway junction; all such relief materials shall be deposited at the DC Office, where SDO Haochong shall receive them, the order said.

Till Saturday out of 81 landslide victims 29 lives had been lost while 18 persons were rescued and 34 went missing.

A total of 452 personnel and 25 local volunteers were being deployed. Thirty-seven excavators were being utilised in the rescue mission.

New cracks appeared onsite due to early rainfall on Saturday, Noney deputy commissioner said.

The landslide took place at the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
