14 bodies of Tupul landslide victims still missing

Imphal: Out of 79 victims of Tupul Maranging (Manipur) landslide 14 are still missing, says deputy commissioner of Noney Haulianlal Guite on Monday.

So far 18 persons rescued and 47 bodies have been recovered according to a data released by the deputy commissioner.

“Body identification has become increasingly difficult due to tissue deterioration. Finding missing bodies is also increasingly difficult as our ability to trace them decreases with depth,” the deputy commissioner said.

A total of 814 personnel and  46 excavators were being engaged to find the missing bodies.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh has been supervising the recovery mission.

Water resource, relief and disaster management minister Awangbow Newmai has been continuously checking and supervising at the ground zero of the Toupul landslide affected areas. He said the rescue operation will continue till all the victims are found with the concerted efforts of all stakeholders.
