IMC possesses new waste compactor machine

Imphal: As a part of clean Imphal City campaign, MAHUD minister Y. Khemchand on Wednesday inaugurated a waste compactor machine at Imphal Municipal Corporation office.

Khemchand said with the help of the waste compactor machine around 14-15 loads of waste that a mini truck collected could be fitted.

He said three waste compactor machine have been kept at Keishamthong, Singjamei and Wangkhei, and with the help of the machines issue on waste collection could be solved much better.

With the increasing of piggery farms, many youths started collecting waste for the pigs, he said.

He appealed to the people to start segregation of solid waste into degradable and non-degradable items as some people also started collecting plastic for recycling purpose.

If people start the segregation process from home then it will be easy to collect waste by the garbage collector, he added.

The government is planning to set up solid waste management unit for each districts of Manipur and for Imphal East the department has already informed concerned DC to find a place to set up the plant, the minister said responding to reporters.
