Large quantity liquor destroyed in Manipur


Imphal: Manipur Excise department on Saturday destroyed different brands of liquor at its headquarter premises, here, using a bulldozer.

The destroyed liquors were Indian Made Foreign Liquor (301.44 litres), Beer (256.1 litres) and distilled indigenous country liquor (4427.5 litres). The value of the liquors was Rs 23, 26,444.

The liquors were destroyed following an order issued by office of the commissioner of Excise Manipur on July 5.

It said the confiscated liquors were laying in the Malkhana of Excise Head Quarter lamphelpat. The Malkhana room was congested due to storage of seized articles, making it inconvenient to store the newly seized confiscated items.

The seized excisable articles were ordered to destroy under Section 69 of Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991.

Manipur was declared as dry state on April 1, 1991 by the RK Ranbir Singh led Manipur government.
