BJP Manipur celebrates Draupadi Murmu’s victory, Biren congratulates the new President

Imphal: Celebrating the victory of Draupadi Murmu in the election for President of India, BJP Manipur led by chief minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday evening marched a procession, here.
Draupadi Murmu is the president-elect of India. She would be the 15th President of India and first tribal leader to hold the top constitutional post in the country. She is the second woman President of India. She belongs to Odisha.
She was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She had served as the ninth governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. Murmu was a presidential candidate for the National Democratic Alliance in the 2022 election, having won the election on July 21.
“Heartiest congratulations to Smt Draupadi Murmu Ji on being elected as the President of India. For the first time in our history, a tribal woman has become the President of India. It is undoubtedly a historic day, especially for the North-East which has a large tribal population, Biren writes on his Facebook wall.
“In a year when the nation is observing the #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav, we are immensely proud that the highest office of this land will be occupied by a self-made woman who belongs to a tribal community,” he added.
Murmu secured 64 percent of votes against Yashwant Sinha’s 36 percent.
