Manipur PCC demonstrates protest rally against repeated summon of Sonia Gandhi by ED

Imphal: Members of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) led by its president K. Meghachandra demonstrated a protest rally on Thursday decrying against frequent summoning of AICC president Sonia Gandhi by Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The protest rally started from MPCC office complex located at BT Road, Imphal.

State police tried to stop the protest rally at the MPCC office complex gate. However, the protestor headed towards Kangla Western gate.

The police personnel blocked the rally in front of Kangla western gate. To control the rally confrontation took place between police personnel and protestors. The police personnel controlled the protest rally and were made returned to state Congress office.

Meghachandra told reporters that MPCC strongly condemns repeated summoned of national Congress president Sonia Gandhi by ED for questioning in National Herald case.

Meghachandra alleged that in order to get political mileage, present BJP led government misused ED as weapon. Similarly, the government is also using CBI as their weapon in the political game, he added.

He said no case can be filed while getting a monetary loan from a bank which is also included under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He said the present government is misusing ED as weapon to harass people. There is no provision to take case regarding the National Herald issue under PMLA, he added.

Meghachandra said the protest demonstration was organised to show democratic rights and MPCC strongly condemned the police act towards the protestor.

While demonstrating the protest, slogans “Down down BJP”, “ Congress party jindabad”, “Narendra Modi Murdabad”, “stop political vendetta” and others.
