Imphal: Tribal Research Institute, department of tribal affairs and hill, Manipur in collaboration with department of History and Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, Manipur University is organising a 4-day national conference on “Indian National Movement and Tribal Freedom Fighters of Manipur” from August 23 with the support of ministry of tribal affairs.
The conference will be held at Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong, Imphal.
The government of Manipur, with support from the ministry of tribal affairs is setting up state-of-the-art Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museum to display and showcase the lives and contribution of prominent tribal freedom fighters of the state who spearheaded the freedom struggle against the Britishers during India’s struggle for independence.
This museum will showcase the valour and sacrifice of tribal leaders and their communities in the fight against the British colonialism. The state government is in the process of finalising the content for the museum.
In this regard, the national conference was planned.
The themes of the conference are Tribal Freedom Fighters in the Anglo-Manipur War, 1891; The Kuki Rising, 1917-1919; The Zeliangrong Movement, 1927-1947; and Tribal Freedom Fighters in INA Movement, 1944.
