Imphal-Jiribam road construction continues against instruction to stop it

Imphal: Despite the instruction of the works minister K. Govindas and MLA S. Kunjakeswor to stop construction of road and drainage on both side of the National Highway-37, construction works are still continuing.

The construction works were still continuing against the approval to construct 4-lane road along thr highway.

MLA, Patsoi Assembly Constituency S. Kunjakeswor Singh said he will personally intervene the construction work in public interest for the welfare of future.

MLA along with a team of media inspected the construction work along National Highway-37 on Sunday.

Minister Govindas along with the MLA had instructed the construction workers to stop the construction of road and drainage on both side of the highway during a visit conducted earlier.

Keba told reporters that the approval to construct 4-lane road was already given by the ministry, but the construction company is continuing the work forcibly till date.

He said the present construction of the highway from Oriental college main gate to Keithelmanbi is 48 feet whereas, the central ministry has given an approval for 4-lane road with a width of 80 feet.

The construction work should be ceased immediately until an amicable solution is brought between state government and the concerned ministry, he added.

He said the stones used in the construction is similar to slates and the stone samples will be sent for laboratory testing to check its quality.
