Arms smuggler arrested in Manipur

Imphal: Teams of Imphal East police commando of Manipur in a counter insurgency operation arrested one arms smuggler from Kangchup Chingkhong, Senapati district on Tuesday.

The arrested person was identified as Thangkhohao Doungel alias Haopu, 47 , son of Lalkhosei  Doungel of Kangchup Makhom village, Kangpokpi district.

The police seized one .32 pistol loaded with three live rounds in the magazine, 15 M16 rifle ammunitions, one blue car (Maruti 800) bearing registration number MN-01X/9772 and one mobile phone from his possession.

The arrestee stated that he had been in the trade of smuggling illegal arms and ammunitions for the last two months. He further stated that he used to threaten the general public and extort money from the general public by using the above seized arms and ammunitions, a police report said.

The arrestee along with the seized arms, ammunitions and mobile phone was being handed over to Lamshang Police station for taking up further necessary legal action against him, it added.
