State government proposed for Rs 1,870 crores to provide uninterrupted power supply: power minister

Imphal: Manipur power minister Th. Biswajit Singh on Friday informed the Manipur House that the present government is providing round the clock power supply in Imphal West and Imphal East, however, power tripping occurred sometimes as most of the present systems are outdated.
Biswajit was responding to MLA Kh. Joykisan during the sitting of ongoing second session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Supplementing the starred question, MLA Joykisan said people in the Imphal city are facing frequent interrupted power supply even in Thangmeiband, Uripok and other areas of the Imphal city. Seeking information from the concerned minister, Joykisan asked what measures have been taken up to provide uninterrupted power supply to the people.
Biswajit informed the House that most of the system that are using while providing power supply is outdated. To provide uninterrupted power supply the state government has made a proposal of Rs 1,870 crore project under Revamped Distribution Sector scheme and at present the central government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 395 crores to be utilised on upgradation of the outdated system, he added.
After the installation and upgradation to a new power system the government will try to provide uninterrupted power supply to the public, he said.
