Chief engineer suspended for furnishing fabricated report

Imphal: Minor irrigation department chief engineer has been suspended on Monday for furnishing fabricated project report that misled the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh informed the House on Monday that the chief engineer has been suspended for misleading the state Assembly.

He admitted that the answer he had given to the House on Saturday in reply to a question raised by opposition member MLA Th. Lokeswar was found to be incorrect and accordingly misled the House.

Lokeswar demanded to know the number of works executed and completed in Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency. Biren informed that the department published work programmes for the year, nine works were listed for Khundrakpam constituency and all the projects have been completed. Lokeswar said three projects at Eshingthenbi, two at Wairi and four at Tiger Camp taken up by the department remained incomplete.

A team of government officials including engineers of the department inspected the projects and the chief engineer was placed under suspension after finding that the projects remained incomplete, Biren informed.

Deputy secretary, department of personnel, Asem Rangina Chanu issued the suspension order of the minor irrigation chief engineer in-charge H. Brajendra.
