Proper measures being taken up to prevent landslide in Manipur: Union railway minister

Imphal: To prevent from similar massive landslide incident occurred at Marangching, Noney district, concerned ministry has been taking necessary technical measures along the railway lines in Manipur, Union railway minister, Ashwani Kumar said on Friday.

Ashwini was informing on the Parliamentary floor responding to a supplementary question raised by MP Rajya Sabha Leishemba Sanajaoba during question hour in the ongoing monsoon parliamentary session.

Seeking information from the union railway minister, Leishemba said  the massive landslide was occurred during the wee hour of May 30 at Marangching railway construction site.

During the incident over 50 people including territorial army, railway staffs and some villagers had died and still five bodies are yet to be recovered. He asked what necessary measures has been taken by the concerned ministry to avoid from similar incident in Manipur.

Ashwani informed that the ministry has been taking necessary technical measures along the railway lines constructed in Manipur as precautionary measures.

He also extend his gratitude towards chief minister N. Biren Singh on involving himself during the rescue mission by going to the site.

The railway project is one important project in bringing development in the north-eastern region including Manipur and the project will be successful, Ashwani said.
