Norwegian apprehended in Manipur

Imphal:  A 51 years old Norwegian woman was apprehended by Assam Rifles at Tengnoupal, Indo-Myanmar border district in Manipur on Tuesday as she possessed expired passport and visa.

​Tengnoupal Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled an attempt of illegal immigration, the Assam Rifles said in a press release on Wednesday.

The foreigner was identified as Mya Kyay Mon, 51.

While carrying out routine checking at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi, she reported at Foreigner Check Point at Khudengthabi, coming from border town Moreh. When the troops on duty checked her documents,  it was found that the lady was a Norwegian national. However, her passport and visa were both expired, the Assam Rifles said.

The lady revealed that she had arrived in India on May 24 and has been staying at Moreh illegally post expiry of her visa and passport, it added.

The lady has been handed over to Moreh Police station for further legal proceedings, the Assam Rifles said.
