Brown Sugar worth over Rs 17 crore recovered from Indo-Myanmar border bridge

Imphal: Moreh Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) and Manipur Police in a joint operation foiled cross border smuggling of narcotics at Friendship Bridge, Moreh, Tengnoupal district on Tuesday.
Based on specific input, a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police was launched in general area Friendship Bridge, Moreh. The joint team observed the suspicious movement of two individuals from Myanmar to India near Border Pillar 77.
”On being challenged, both individuals dropped their sacks and fled towards Myanmar territory. On thorough search of the sacks, 8.60 kg of Brown Sugar worth Rs 17.20 crore was recovered,” the Assam Rifles said.
The recovered items were handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation, it added.
