People protest Keisamthong blast


Imphal: Decrying the blast that occurred at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak in Imphal West district on Wednesday evening, people of locality staged protest on Thursday demanding clarification from the miscreant(s) on the reason of exploding bomb at residential area.

The miscreants exploded an improvised explosive device blasted at around 6.40 pm.

According to police the bomb exploded at the first floor of an under construction building, which belongs to one Khangembam Radhapyari, 80, wife of late Iboyaima of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak.

Apart from minor damages to the floor, no major damage or casualty was reported in the explosion.

Radhapiyari has four sons and they are all doing business as profession. Among them one deals in beetle leaves business, police said.

One of the son who could have knowledge regarding the incident departed for Guwahati for his health check up on Wednesday, police added.

Footage of CCTV cameras have been collected to aid the investigation process.A case has been registered at the Imphal Police Station, police added.

General secretary of Hodam Leirak Yumjao Lairembi, Pheiroijam Memchatombi, told reporters that the protesters strongly condemn triggering bomb blast in the residential area.

She appealed the miscreants to clarify immediately on why they exploded the bomb in residential area which could injured people.

The place where the bomb exploded is near the Keishampat junction, where there is tight security. The state government should investigate the matter seriously.

Some non-locals have been working as construction workers at the building and there is no extortion notice served to the family by any unlawful organisation in the past.

“Don’t want to hear the noise of bomb blast and gun shots”, “We condem exploding bomb in residential area” were among the slogans of the protesters.
