Shops can now sell Wi-Fi service without license

Imphal: The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of Department of Telecom (DoT) to proliferate Broadband through Public Wi-Fi networks under the framework of the Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI).
The PM-WANI framework facilitates ease of doing business and encourage local shops and small establishments to become Wi-Fi Hotspot providers Public Data Office (PDO). The local shops and small establishments as PDOs may earn extra income from selling internet without any requirement of license, registration and/or any fees to DoT, said a press release on Friday.
DoT NE LSA unit proposes to organize next virtual meet on PM-WANI on September 21 at 11: 30 am for increased awareness of all existing and prospective stakeholders.
Interested existing/prospective PDOs/PDOAs/citizens may submit their willingness to join along with suggestions/ feedback at dirsc.man-dgt-dot@gov.in / adgmanipur.nelsa-dot@gov.in in this regard. Link for virtual meeting will be shared with all interested participants in due course, the release said.
