Training programme on ‘Quality Seed Production’ conducted

Imphal: With the objective to produce better crop yield and good quality seed a one day awareness cum training programme on ‘Quality Seed Production’ conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ukhrul located at the complex of ICAR Research Complex for HEH Region, Manipur Centre on Saturday.

The programme was jointly organised by ICAR Research Complex for NHE Region, Manipur Centre, Imphal; Institute of Cooperative Management, Imphal; and Alumni Association of Agriculture College, Imphal.

Joint director, ICAR, RC, Manipur Centre, I. Meghachandra said to bring better yields on agricultural products for a better economy a different perspective is needed despite of old practice.

Most of the area of Manipur is covered by hills. Hence, a different and unique method of agriculture is needed. More profitable crops having high value crops are needed to plant in order to increase earning profit instead of imitating other methods from outside the state, Meghachandra said.

Under Institute of Seed Science, ICAR has been trying to produce paddy and spices having high value crops especially for the hilly regions of north east. ICAR, Manipur in collaboration with different KVKs of Manipur are trying to produce paddy and other spices having high crop value especially that suits the geographical climate of Manipur, he added.

To increase agricultural products various awareness cum training programmes have been conducting to aware the farmers. Such awareness cum training programme will help the farmers on ‘Double the farmer’s income’ which is a government vision, he added.

Farmers mainly from Hungpung participated the programme. Agricultural experts suggest on how to prevent crops from insects, pest and to produce better yields.

Head of KVK, Ukhrul, Solei Luiram; SMS of KVK Ukhrul, Ajit Botanico Calgri; project manager of Canada, O. Gunamani; professor, CAU, Imphal, A. Herojit; director, ICM, Joychandra and professor, CAU, Imphal, L. Nabachandra participated the programme.
