Union Cabinet approves to proliferate broadband through Wi-Fi


Imphal: The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of department of telecom (DoT) to proliferate broadband through public Wi-Fi networks under the framework of the Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI).

The PM-WANI framework facilitates ease of doing business and encourage local shops and small establishments to become Wi-Fi Hotspot providers Public Data Office (PDO). The local shops and small establishments as PDOs may earn extra income from selling internet without any requirement of license, registration and/or any fees to DoT.

DoT NE LSA unit proposes to organize next virtual meet on PM-WANI on 21st Sep 2022 (Wednesday) at 1130 hrs for increased awareness of all existing and prospective stakeholders.

Interested existing/prospective PDOs/PDOAs/Citizens may submit their willingness to join along with suggestions/ feedback at dirsc.man-dgt-dot@gov.in / adgmanipur.nelsa-dot@gov.in in this regard. Link for virtual meeting will be shared with all interested participants in due course.
