Imphal: Imphal West district police commando of Manipur seized 9.614 kg of Yaba drug, World is Yours ( WY) tablets, worth around Rs 4.4 crore in international market value and arrested three persons including the owner of the consignment who was contested in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election on Janata Dal (United) ticket.
Imphal West superintendent of police, Ksh. Shivakanta on Tuesday told reporters at his conference hall that the arrested persons have been identified as one Longjam Ratan Singh, 30, son of L. Sharat Singh of Nongdam Awang Leikai, Imphal East; Kangabam Jadu Singh, 52, son of K. Dijamani Singh of Charangpat Awang Leikai presently staying at Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak, Imphal East district and Majnu Miah, 37, son of Soibar Rahman of Jordanga Part II, Dhubri, Assam.
It is said Kangabam Jadu Singh alias Jadumani was a JD (U) candidate who field for the party in the recent 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Wangkhem Assembly Constituency.
According to the election affidavit submitted by Jadu it is mentioned that he had three criminal antecedents at three different police stations under the offence of “kidnapping for ransom, wrongfully concealing or keeping confinement, kidnapped or abducted person. Criminal Conspiracy Voluntary causing of grievous hurt extortion at Thoubal police station; disobedient to order duly promulgated by public servant. Unlawfully negligently does any act. Malignantly does any act. Act done in furtherance of common intention at Kamjong police station and raising funds for terrorist act. Member of terrorist gang or organisation.”
The three drug dealers were nabbed on Monday evening in continuation of the police activity under “War on Drugs 2.0” of the Manipur government during frisking and checking at Meitei Lamkhai area under the jurisdiction of Singjamei police station.
While checking one Hyundai i20 car bearing registration number MN01W-4863 S Beige colour was intercepted. On through checking of the vehicle, suspected narcotic items (WY tablets) wrapped in brown adhesive tape were found concealed in a chamber of the vehicle. On opening suspected WY tablets weighing around 9.1614 kg around a total of 88,000 WY tablets were found inside, the senior police officer said.
Ratan revealed the police that the recovered narcotic items belongs to Jadu.
In follow up action, the police team arrested Jadu and Majnu, who is one of their accomplices from near Saparmeina police station, Kangpokpi district and recovered one white Tata Hexa bearing registration number MN01AG-3147 in which the accused persons were travelling towards Dimapur, Shivakanta said.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused persons are part of inter-state drug syndicate,” he added.
A cash of Rs 1,42,430, six mobile phones, one wallet, two aadhaar cards, one voter card, one PAN card and one driving license were also recovered from their possession, he added.
The arrested persons along with the seizures have been handed over to Singjamei Police station and a case has been registered at the same police station.
