Imphal: Having failed to get positive response from the government in the 2-day mass casual leave agitation demanding not to change head of account of the RMSA and SSA teachers who were regularised in 2020, teachers under the umbrella of All Integrated Teachers’ Association, Manipur (AITAM) launched 2-day sit-in agitation in front of respective zonal offices.

An agitating teacher at ZEO Zone-II in Imphal East, Yumnam Satyamala Devi, said, “The teachers want to teach the students, but to get our legitimate rights we will not withdraw the agitation until the demands are fulfilled.”

She said with a state Cabinet decision 3,480 teachers recruited under SSA and RMSA were integrated to the state education department (school) on July 23, 2020. Since then, the teachers have been getting their monthly salary from the same salary head of account as that of teachers employed under the state education department.

However, the director of the department issued an order mentioning that the 3,480 teachers will be getting their salary as before under centre sponsored scheme from a separate salary head of account, the teacher said.

The teachers will not cooperate with the recent order of director education (S) instead the order should revoke immediately, the protestor said.

The teachers body complains that with the new department order there will be no promotion avenue and service discrimination among teachers.
