Imphal: In continuation of supporting Manipur government’s ‘War on Drugs 2.0’ campaign, volunteers of state Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), with the assistance of Imphal West police seized Heroin powder, CO2 pistol and live round of AK 47 rifles and apprehended 11 drug peddlers on Monday from different locations.
A team of volunteers of BJYM led by its state president M. Barish Sharma on Monday at around 8.30 pm conducted a drive at a lodge located at North AOC area.
During the drive the volunteers detained seven drug peddlers along with Heroin powder and cash used during the crime. Later the seven persons were handed over to Imphal West police for further necessary legal action.
In continuation of the drive on the same day the BJYM team conducted drive at a residence located at Khongman zone-I, Imphal East.
During the drive one Shreemayum Sanathoi, 26, and Sh. Inaocha were apprehended. However, another two drug peddlers Sh. Dipu and Malemnganba were escaped along with a plastic bag suspected to be containing drugs by taking the advantage of darkness.
As disclosed by Sanathoi, another person Sh. Suraj Singh, 22, son of Sh. Abu from the same locality was also apprehended by the team.
The team again apprehended another drug peddler, Aribam Dipu, 25, son of late Aribam Dhanjoy from Khongman Zone-I, Imphal East.
From the disclosure of the three drug peddlers it was learnt that they get the drugs from a residence at Singjamei Keshtri Leikai, Imphal East.
The BJYM volunteers rushed to the said residence and conducted a drive.
When the volunteers tried to enter the residence of one Okram Ajit, 34, son of O. Suresh of Singjamei Keshtri Leikai, Imphal East as informed by the three apprehended drug peddlers, Ajit tried to escape by threatening the BJYM volunteers with a CO2 pistol. However the volunteers overpowered and managed to apprehend Ajit.
On searching the bedroom of Ajit, huge amount of Heroin powder packed in plastic vials were able to detect along with a live round of AK 47 rifle.
The four drug peddlers along with the seizures were handed over to Imphal East district police for further necessary legal action.
