Imphal: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Imphal East, Andro organised a one day national campaign on “Poshan Abhiyaan and Tree Plantation” programme at the premises of KVK, Imphal East, Andro on Saturday.
The programme was organised under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education (DEE), Central Agricultural University, Imphal.
Director of DEE, CAU, Imphal, professor Ph. Ranjit Sharma said the central government has been providing different flagship programme. It will be a lost for farmers if the farmers fails to get the opportunity.
He said in olden days people of Manipur used to have organic food whereas the modern farmers are giving priority on using chemical fertilizers. Farmers should avoid using of huge amount of chemical fertilizers as it may bring better yields however it will give a harmful impact to the health.
Instead of using chemical fertilizers, farmers should adopt the modern biotechnology technique which can produce nutritive bio fortified foods, the professor said.
As a part of the function a tree plantation programme was also conducted in the premises of KVK, Imphal East, Andro and tree saplings were also distributed to the farmers.
Field officer IFFCO, Manipur and Mizoram, Saikat Das; Khullappa, Andro village, Sagolshem Chandra Meitei; Child Development Project Officer, Keirao Bitra Block, Imphal East, LC Ruhini Kumar and Zilla Parisad, Laipham Khunou, Imphal East, Lairenjam Olen attended the inaugural function.
During the technical session SMS, Home Science, KVK, Imphal East, S. Molibala Devi delivered speech on ‘Nutri-cereal and their role on human health”; SMS, Horticulture, KVK, Imphal East Priyadarshini Salam delivered speech on “Establishment of Nutritional garden and wise selection of crops for nutri garden” and SMS, Agronomy, KVK, Imphal East Nandini Chongtham delivered her speech on “introduction of Biofortified varieties and its importance”.
Around 200 farmers attended the technical session from Andro area.
