Under trial prisoner found dead

Imphal: An under trial prisoner found dead, hanging inside his cell at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, Imphal East on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased prisoner was Moirangthem Jupiter, 30, son of late M. Jugindro Singh of Thanga Moirangthem Leikai, Bishnupur district.

According to police Jupiter was an under trial prisoner and was remanded to judicial custody by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bishnupur against the charge of murder of his own father in 2021.

It was reported earlier that Jupiter was substance abuse and killed his own father by slashing multiple times on April 20 night while sleeping at his home.

Jupiter was kept in lunatic cell due to his mental disorder condition. The police personnel found him hanging inside his cell during a routine check-up of the inmate, says police.

After informing the family members of the deceased, the body was admitted to JNIMS morgue.

After conducting an autopsy with the knowledge of the family member, the body was handed over to the family.
