PDWMAI urges government to lift ban on bottled drinking water

Imphal: Package Drinking Water Manufacturers and Allied Industries (PDWMAI), Manipur appealed the state government to lift the ban on half litre package drinking water and assured that PDWMAI will take the responsibility to collect the empty package drinking water bottle in the state.

Executive member of PDWMAI, Thangjam Joykumar talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday said PDWMAI welcome Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022, however the state government is requested to lift the ban on using half litre package drinking water.

He said half litre drinking water package is of huge demand 8n the state. With the ban on half litre bottle the manufacturing unit has been facing a major issue, he added.

Joykumar said empty plastic bottle bank has been launched by the MAHUD minister and within one month PDWMAI has able to collect around 8 MT empty water bottles which has been sent to recycling unit for shredding after that the shredded plastic bottle will be sent to recycling unit of Guwahati.

PDWMAI has installed 80 plastic bottle collection bank at various places and has been targeting to installed 200 similar banks at other places, he added.

After the signing of MoU with registered plastic recycling unit in Manipur, PDWMAI will be providing empty water bottle as per MoU, Joykumar said.

PDWMAI will be installing plastic bottle collection bank in collaboration with some NGOs on September 30, he added.
