Asst. Prof. served Show Cause notice for criticising government on tourism, liquor legalisation

Imphal: Manipur University has served Show Cause notice to assistant professor Dr N. Sanatomba Singh (Manipuri department) for criticising Manipur government in regard to tourism, legalization of liquor and on various other sensitive issues.

Dr Sanatomba criticized the government while delivering his speech at a debating competition was organised by Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSS) on September 25 at the Conference Hall of the Manipur Institute of Management Studies, Manipur University.

His speech went viral in the social media. Such speech made by him in the public platform has tarnished the image of the university which prima facie appears to be highly derogatory and defamatory, says the show cause notice issued by Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar on Wednesday.

The Deans’ Committee in its meeting held on Tuesday considered the matter in detail and resolved to issue a show cause notice to him before taking any necessary action as per law, if so required, it adds.

“… Dr. N. Sanatomba Singh, assistant professor, department of Manipuri is required to explain in writing regarding his speech which has violated the rules under Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964 within 7(seven) days from the date of receipt of the Show Cause Notice to show cause as to why disciplinary action as deem tit should not be taken against him,” the notice says.
