Patsoi will no more depend on other states’ ice-packed fish by 2023: Keba

Imphal: By 2023 Patsoi Assembly Constituency will become a dependent free constituency from fish procured from outside Manipur, MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh said on Friday.

The people’s representative was speaking during releasing of fish fingerlings at Heinoubok community pond, here.

He said most of the people of the state have been consuming ice-packed fish since decades. To overcome and replace it by local fish, he said, he started releasing different varieties of fish fingerlings in 37 community ponds of Patsoi Assembly Constituency.

Keba said most of the Patsoi people have a passion of pisciculture. By taking the advantage of the passion and to generate income more fish will be released in the entire 37 community ponds so that by 2023 Patsoi Constituency would become a dependent free constituency from imported consumption fish, he added.

Respective local club volunteer in the maintenance of the community pond, he added.

Regarding lifting on prohibition of alcohol from the state, the MLA said, the government is discussing to produce a white paper as demanded by civil society organisations. He said drafting the white paper need understanding between the government and people of the state.

He appealed the civil organisations to hold a meeting with the government to draft a regulation regarding pros and cons before the legalisation of alcohol is implemented.
