Drug trader arrested with Brown Sugar

Imphal: Imphal West police has foiled smuggling of Brown Sugar by apprehending one drug dealer with Brown Sugar while he was trying to transport it to Dimapur of Nagaland from Imphal on Tuesday.

The drug dealer was identified as Md. Farijuddin, 25, son of Md. Lahimudfin of Kwakta Ward number 2, Bishnupur district.

The police team seized 630 gm of contraband Brown Sugar and arrested the drug trafficker from North AOC area on Tuesday while trying to transport the said drug to Dimapur.

Farijuddin fell in police hand when the police conducted an operation at the place acting on an information on a contraband drug trafficker transporting some quantity of brown sugar from Kwakta to Dimapur by a vehicle (Winger).

The police team at around 8.35 am detained the said vehicle and detected  from the possession of Farijuddin, the driver of the vehicle. The drug was found kept concealed in his pants wrapped at the thigh by folding with cello tape.

The suspected drug was tested in presence of a gazetted officer and two independent witnesses. Farijuddin was arrested and seized the drugs along with his mobile phone, a police report said.

A case has been registered under ND and PS Act at Imphal Police station, it added.

The police team of Imphal Police station and Phoujakhai Ikhai police station is conducting a search operation at Kwakta area to nab other accused person related to the drug consignment, it said.

Farijuddin has been remanded for seven days police custody after he was produced in front of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West.

On his revealing, another accused person who handed over the drugs identified as Md. Samir, 27, son of Md. Leiharuddin of Kwakta Ward no.8 was arrested from his house at Kwakta.

He was also remanded into police custody for seven days.
