Man arrested for sexually assaulting girl student

Imphal: A 43 years old man was arrested by a team of Imphal West Police from his residence at Lalambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikai, Imphal West for ‘sexually assaulting’ a girl student on Wednesday.

The incident was occured on Tuesday morning at around 5 am as per cctv footage.

Imphal West Police superintendent Ksh. Shivakanta said, in a press release, that the man was arrested acting on a social media post that was seen circulated widely especially in Facebook and Instagram on Wednesday, in which a mid age person who came in a two wheeler sexually assaulted a girl who was going for tution at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai IVR.

Immediately, a strong team of Imphal West District Police led by Addl SP (Crime Against Woman) Rattana including a team of Imphal PS led by OC IPS, a team of Cyber Cell Imphal West was mobilised.

After examining the videos, cctv footages minutely and through other sources, the person was zeroed in to one Haobam Ibomcha Singh, 43, of Lalambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikai. Immediately, the team rushed to Lalambung area and arrested the person from his house, Shivakanta said.

He has confessed to have committed the crime. A suo motto case has been registered at Imphal PS for taking legal action, the senior police officer said.

“Any person involving in such heinous crime will not be spared. Please beware, the state police is swift in responding to these crimes,” chief minister N. Biren Singh writes on his Facebook wall highlighting the episode.
