Two nabbed with Heroin in Manipur

Imphal: As a part of Manipur government’s War on Drugs campaign Kakching district police on Thursday nabbed a man and a woman who were ferrying Heroin No. 4 powder in a vehicle along Indo-Myanmar road at Pallel in Kakching district.
The two were identified as Naoba Takhellambam, 36, son of Takhellambam Iboyai Meitei of Haotak Tampak Khunao Makha Leikai, Wangoo Keirap, Bishnupur district, at present residing at Chikim village, Moreh ( Indo-Myanmar border town), Tengnoupal district and Lhingchin Kipgen, 46, wife of Nehkolam Kipgen, of Zalenphai Part-2, Moreh.
They tried to escape when the police tried to stop their vehicle for checking at the gate of Pallel Police station. However, managed to stop the speeding vehicle at a short distance, superintendent of police Shrey Vats said.
The vehicle, red Vitara Brezza, bearing registration number MN06L-8880, was coming from Pallel side when the police tried to stop it.
The driver and the occupant of the vehicle were detained for verification. They along with the vehicle were searched after observing legal formalities. From the vehicle, 65 soap cases containing suspected Heroin No.4 powder were detected. The driver of vehicle and its occupants were arrested by observing all formalities. On weighing, the suspected Heroin No.4 powder was found to weigh approximately 809 gm, the senior police officer said.
The arrested persons along with the seized articles were handed over to officer-in-charge of Kakching Police station for taking up further necessary legal action, he added.
