Section 144 imposed in Imphal West

Imphal: Imphal West district magistrate has imposed prohibitions under section 144 of Cr.P.C., 1973 in the district for two months with effect from October 4 as ‘there is likelihood of serious breach of peace, disturbance to the public tranquility and grave danger to human lives and properties’.
The order of prohibition says the superintendent of police Imphal West laid the information on October 3 that there is likelihood of serious breach of peace, disturbance to the public tranquility and grave danger to human lives and properties and also there is information regarding threatening of business community in Imphal area by the underground elements for payment of extortion demand.
It is desirable that any breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquility and danger to human life and property should be immediately prevented, the order said.
It is considered that assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful in the said area, or the carrying of sticks, stones, firearms and/or weapons of any other description or objects which can be used as offensive weapons should be prohibited as an immediate preventive measure that is likely to prevent a breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquility and grave danger to human lives and properties, district magistrate Th. Kirankumar said in the order.
The prohibitions are assembly of five or more persons, which is likely to turn unlawful and carrying of sticks, stones, firearms without a valid License, weapons or objects of any description, which can be used as offensive weapons.
Persons desirous of taking out rallies or processions for socio-political, customary, religious objectives or for entertainment, involving the assembly of 5 or more persons within the district shall not take out processions or rallies or cause such assembly of persons until permission is obtained by them, the order mentioned.
