Two arrested for unauthorised possession of SIM cards

Imphal: A team of Imphal West district police commandos nabbed two persons for unauthorised possession of SIM cards ‘suspected to be used by unlawful organisation’ from Paona Market on Friday.
The arrested persons were identified as Angomzambam Deval Singh, 39, son of A Kumar of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Imphal East and Chanam Jiten Meitei, 37, son of Chanam Shamu Meitei of Chanam Sandrok Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.
Deval disclosed police that he collected the SIM cards from one Chaman Jiten Meitei near Ibohal cycle shop, Paona Bazar as instructed by one Shubam who is a salesman of Pawan Brother mobile phone shop, Moreh (Indo-Myanmar border town).
Jiten disclosed that one unknown person handed over the SIM cards to him to deliver it to Pawan who is the owner of Pawan Brothers shop, a police report said.
One EECO van, two Mobile handsets, one cartoon box containing 13 realme mobile handset boxes, five small boxes of realme buds and one pink color bag containing 36 Jio SIM cards and 30 Airtel SIM Cards and three sheets of Tax Invoice, two wallets, one Aadhaar card, one voter card, one PAN card, one ATM card, one driving license and one xerox copy of vehicle registration card were recovered.
The arrested persons along with the seizures have been handed over to City police station and a case has been registered for further investigation, the report said.
Police cautioned the SIM card retailers not to issue SIM cards through fraudulent means which otherwise are misused by anti-social elements.
