General strike on ‘Black Day’ affects normal life in Manipur

Imphal: General strike of Coordination Committee (CorCom) and Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) Kangleipak imposed against alleged colonisation of Manipur by India on October 15, 1949 affected normal livein Manipur.

CorCom, a conglomerate of insurgent groups, has been observing October 15 as “National Black Day” every year. The committee announced general strike starting at the midnight of Friday till 5 pm of Saturday.

SOREPA, Kangleipak on the same reason imposed general strike across the state starting from 5 am of Saturday till 5 pm.

During the general strike no educational institutions were seen open in Imphal and other parts of the state. Business establishment were shut down. Public transportations were paralysed and all shops, Khwairamband Ima market in the Imphal city were shut down.

Some of the roadside vegetable vendors were seen in some parts of the city.

No unwanted incident was occurred during the general strike.
