One nabbed with Heroin amid Manipur chaos

Imphal: Manipur Police has apprehended one person who was ferrying Heroin powder in a Tata truck, from Lilong Chajing in Imphal West district.

The person was identified as Apu Gangmei, 28, alias Gaijanlung Gangmei alias Asakho son of Thomas Gangmei of Lilong Chaobok along National Highway-2, Thoubal district.

Gangmei was the driver of the red Tata truck bearing registration number AS28AC0729.

The police team recovered 50 plastic soap cases ‘suspected to be containing Heroin powder weighing 625 gm approximately’ including the weight of the plastic soap cases from the dash board above the front seat.

It also recovered one mobile handset along with two SIM cards, one wallet containing a sum of Rs. 10,500 and one driving license from his possession at the spot, a police report said.

The vehicle  along with the arrestee and seized articles were taken to Singjamei Police station for further checking. 

In presence of concerned Executive Magistrate further search of the vehicle was conducted at the police station and recovered 200 plastic soap cases suspected to be containing Heroin powder weighing 2.5 kg approximately including the weight of the plastic soap cases was also recovered at 4:00 pm. The items were found concealed at a secret chamber just above the chassis.

The arrestee along with the seized article and Heroin powder weighing a total of 3.125 kg approximately including the weight of the plastic soap cases were handed over to Singjamei police station for further necessary legal actions, the police report said.
