Imphal: A combined team of security forces has rescued All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Union (AMGSU) Charhajare Unit president Roshan Uprety from the eastern side of Koubru range.
The combined team of Kangpokpi District Police and Assam Rifles found Roshan in a hut. He was handed over to his family on Tuesday.
Roshan was abducted at around 6.30 pm of October 16 from Charhajare Bazar by unknown miscreants.
A police report said during a non-stop search operation, reliable input was received about the hideout of the abductors along with the abducted person at an isolated location of the Koubru range.
Immediately, the combined forces team launched a search operation in the specific area about 5 km West of Mangjol village at around 3.30 pm. As the security personnel approached a suspected hideout, they found Roshan Uprety while the rest, taking advantage of the thick jungle, fled from the spot, the report said.
He was then taken to police custody at Gamnom Saparmeina Police station and handed over to his family after a medical examination at PHC Gamphazol. The search operation was still going on to trace the abductors, it added.
A non-SoO Kuki militant outfit, the Kuki National Front-Nehlun(KNF-N) in a statement said Roshan was abducted in connection with the July 10 incident at Charhajare where two of its cadres were apprehended by the Charhajare’s Nepali and handed over to the police along with their arms, the outfit said.
The outfit said they had released Roshan safe and sound considering the situation of his wife, children, and parents’ prayer.
