Mother, son arrested with 1 kg Brown Sugar in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur Police has apprehended a woman and her son from Imphal East, and seized 1.016 kg of Brown Sugar from their possession.

They were apprehended by on Wednesday evening by teams of special commando unit, Khabeisoi and Women Police station of Imphal East during normal frisking at the area of Hatta Centre Majid Road New Lambulane  2nd street near Tribal Market.

The duo were moving on foot. Being suspicious they were detained for verification. They identified themselves as Deikhoting Haokip, 52, wife of Hb Holsei Haokip and Khailenkhup Haokip, 31, son of Hb Holsei Haokip of Longja village, Chakpikarong sub-division, Chandel district, Manipur, a police report said.

While checking the leader carry bag ( black in colour) of Deikhoting Haokip, two plastic polythene pouches suspected to be  containing Brown Sugar were found inside the bag. The plastic polythene pouches were marked as “A” and ” B”.

The pouch marked as ‘A” weighed 507 gm and the pouch marked as “B” weighed 509 gm respectively.Thereafter, both the polythene pouches were sealed in a yellow colour envelope.The drug was seized at 5:15 pm.

A sum of Rs 2,550 in cash, two mobile phones, two sim cards, and the suspected Brown Sugar worth Rs 35 crore in the international market and were seized from their possession. The arrested persons and the seized items were handed over to Porompat Police station, the report said.
