Two including a woman arrested with 1.233 kg Brown Sugar, one female at large

Imphal: A team of Churachandpur district police on Friday seized 1.233 kg of suspected Brown Sugar and arrested two drug smugglers including a woman, another woman was at large.

The arrested persons have been identified as one Limkholet Lhungdim, 42, son of late Khatkhongam and Nengtinhoi, 35, wife of Paongam Simte both from D.Lhangjol Village, Churachandpur district.

A police report said the district police received an information that one unknown individual is indulging in smuggling of contraband drugs within Gilgal Veng, D Phailian, Churachandpur district. Police teams including a team of women police and a team of VDF proceeded to the residence of one Chochong wife of Y.  Yaima of Gilgal Veng, D. Phailien, Churachandpur.

On seeing the police team approaching, two female and one male fled from the house. On reaching the house in presence of executive magistrate and civil witnesses a huge consignment suspected to be Brown sugar contained in 100 soap cases were detected inside the bedroom of the house. Some of the team members pursued one male and female who were seen fleeing in a red colour Maruti Gypsy vehicle without registration number plate. The team intercepted them at Gouchinkhup Veng, Churachandpur, the police report said.

After they identified their identity they disclosed the police that they had brought the 100 soap cases of suspected Brown Sugar from one Ngamlet Lhungdim of Phoilen village and kept in the house of Chochong for selling to prospective buyers.

The two individuals were brought to the house of Chochong and the suspected bBown Sugar was weighed and it was found to be 1.233 kg excluding the weight of soap cases, the report said.

The drugs along with red colour Maruti Gypsy and a mobile phone were seized and arrested the two persons at the spot. A case has been registered under ND and PS Act at Churachandpur police station for further investigation, it added.
