Rs 5500 crore alloted for upgrading NE airports

Imphal: A total of Rs 5500 crore has been allotted for the upgradation of airports in the Northeast while the national highways in the region have been doubled with construction going at the speed of 1.6km per day, chief minister N. Biren Singh writes this on his Facebook wall.

Biren said the Northeast is indeed passing through a radical shift towards development and connectivity with aircraft movement witnessing growth higher than the rest of the country under the UDAN scheme.

This initiative has made air travel affordable by upgrading airports, increasing air routes and subsidising air travel, he said.
