Missing student found buried, family demands justice

Imphal: Body of one college student of Saraswati Institute of Management and Paramedical Science, Pangei, who had been missing since October 12, was found buried at Chingmeirong cremation site as unclaimed body.

The family of the deceased demanded post mortem of the body and to deliver justice at the earliest.

The deceased student was Ngangbam Elsijit Singh pursuing 1st semester, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), at Saraswati Institute of Management and Paramedical Science, Pangei. He had been staying at hostel of the institute.

Sister of the deceased, Ngangbam Ratna told reporters at Manipur Press Club, here on Wednesday that on October 12 evening the warden of the hostel call her and informed to take Elsijit as he is drunk. She along with some of her family members reached the hostel of the institute at around 8.30 pm on the same day.

When they reached the hostel they waited for around 10 minutes at the hostel gate and no one was there. When she called the warden of the hostel he told her that they are on the way and ask them to wait for some minutes, Ratna said.

The warden also told her that Elsijit was found drunk and when he asked him for dinner, he denied to take dinner and stayed at his hostel bed. But when they returned after dinner Elsijit was found missing from the hostel, she added.

She returned back and at around 11 pm of the same day the warnden called and ask her to file a missing report at police station. She told her that Elsijit is missing at around 8.30 pm and it is not necessary to file missing report at 11 pm. She told the warden to file the missing on the next day.

On the next day on October 13 she went to Heingang police station for filing a missing report. The police officials told her that some of the faculty members of the institution came earlier to file the missing report but as such report need consent of family members the report was not received, she added.

On questioning to roommates of Elsijit, they told that on that day he was in normal condition and there is no sign of consuming alcohol. When she ask the warden to give the CCTV footage of October 12, they told her that the footage was not recorded on that day, Ratna narrated.

On October 23 Heingang police called her and sent a photo and ask her to identify Elsijit. She confirmed the photograph as Elsijit but the police official told her that the body has been buried at Chingmeirong cremation site as unclaimed body, she added.

Ratna said she received another screen shot photo of a chatting from a whatsapp group named as “ASI Manipur Police Group”. In the group the photo of body of Elsijit was circulating as one body found. After the body was deposited at RIMS morgue, the body was buried at Chingmeirong Cremation site as unclaimed body on October 19, Ratna said.

She asked why the institution is in hasty to file the missing report of Elsijit and till date why any person from the institution came to take part in the morn of Elsijit.
